Tolerance

this is not about the religions,
nor about people with delusions,
this ain't about the corrupt leaders,
nor about crappy newsreaders,
hardly will i talk about the education system,
cos its just better to keep quiet about 'em.
this is not about poor internet,
nor is it about bookies and bets...
i'd never stray near a twilight fan,
if you have read it ur not a man...
this is about something very weird,
"geometrical tolerances", i exclaim, scratching my beard!!!

Let's call it a day...

The origins of the weekend are interesting...
Since time immemorial, a day of the seven day week has been reserved for rest.
Most of the world observed this day on a Sunday(primarily as a day of prayer in countries
where Christianity was widespread) while the middle-east observed their rest day on
Friday(traditionally the Islamic day of prayer). But the concept of 5 day weeks
which is popular in countries like Australia, England and USA is a fairly recent
development. It all began with the American labour unions trying to accommodate
Saturday in the rest days as most Jewish workers took their Sabbath on this day, instead
of Sunday. Their appeal was successful and a cotton mill was the first to adopt a 5 day week.
Pretty soon, biggies like the Ford Motor Company started having 5 day weeks and the
concept caught on.
In the 1970s a disc-jockey at a pub in Ohio came up with a rather iconic phrase which
we have come to associate with the beginning of a weekend, "Thank God! It's Friday!".
Today, the weekend buzz begins on Fridays itself, with workplace chit-chat topics
dominated by people's weekend plans. Plans for unwinding, catching up and recharging
for the week to follow. Saturday nights are game and pub nights! Sunday is for time with
your loved ones and both days are a chance to exercise your lazy bones!

Now, why am I suddenly so infatuated by the weekend?
Cos my weeks ends only at 4pm on a Saturday... :(

Cheers!

The Heart of Life

Ever wondered if Life was a person,
what he or she would look like?
would he or she be someone who you
will take an instant liking to?
or would the very sight of him/her unsettle you?
what would life's attributes be?
is life greedy? selfish? or perhaps life is enthusiastic...
maybe even vibrant...
one thing is for certain..
life appears different to each individual...
and the way you see Life is perhaps
the very way I don't...
but at the end of the day,
we all have to accept Life...
and hopefully
Life will accept us...
for as a song goes...
The Heart of Life is Good!

Jack of All Trades...

Unfortunately, the idiom suits me to the T.

How many people have you met that can play a little bit of cricket, tennis, football, table-tennis, the keyboard, a dozen computer games in amateur levels, cook maybe half a dozen things, learn sewing only to stop after learning how to get a button on, knowing how to make crude penholders from softdrink cans, waxlamps from candle stubs and some SUPW stuff, enough of bookish knowledge to be amongst the top but at the bottom once you are there...

I have spent days pondering over the reasons behind these plethora of abilities (for want of better word) of mine. Why, I've asked myself, is it that I have been unable to carry on whenever I have started out well? Why does the determination that accompanies me at first, fizz out?

These questions plagued me in initially. Later, self-confidence became an issue. When colleagues start excelling jealousy becomes an issue. You start wondering, what will you ever become? You hear praise of hard work all around you and start feeling low...

But one thing that i never lost was my keenness. Despite the many starts, I continued to start at many places and remarkably, I fitted somewhere.

Whenever a quiz master asks me the sport in which you would use the term 'Let', or the main ingredient of the sweet 'Bhaloshahi', or the form of sewing where flowers are dominant, or the unit of capacitance in physics, I feel happy that all those starts were there for me. I feel happy that whenever there is a discussion, I always have something to contribute. And when you feel happy, you feel confident.

Now, I'm not an octogenarian who has the experience of the world. Just an 18 year old guy. But this is truly one helluva experience in just 18 years of existence on planet earth.
